This white wolf (a rare color morph in our area) and it's pack—filmed on the Lost Bay snowmobile trail on the northern tip of Voyageurs National Park in February—are not from our study area…and the Cranberry Bay Pack, who occupies this area, were not happy about these trespassers. We suspect this “intruding” pack is the pack just north of Voyageurs National Park in Ontario. The pack likely traveled across the ice of Rainy Lake to reach the Cranberry Bay territory. The Shoepack Lake Pack (below) is one of the larger packs—9 wolves strong as of Fall 2021—we have documented on video. We have documented a few packs of the same size or a bit larger in the past but that was some time before we were using trail cameras with video capabilities! That said, wolf packs larger than 9 wolves are pretty uncommon in our area. The biggest pack we have documented is 12 wolves.
