Klimt had a clear idea of how to paint people. He didn’t believe figures needed realistic space around them. No rooms, no perspective. Instead, he built flat, ornamental worlds and placed the body inside them - or let it dissolve into them. Gold and patterns weren’t decoration. They were structure. He borrowed from Byzantine mosaics, Japanese prints, and ancient symbols to escape academic painting. For Klimt, the face and hands carried emotion. The rest could become abstract. Anatomy mattered le
