Surprise! 😲 Eastern whip-poor-wills blend in so well to their surroundings that they often go undetected, even at close range by an animal as cautious as a white-tailed deer. Look for the eye-shine picked up by this trail cam footage to locate the whip-poor-will hiding in the bottom right. The cryptic nature of whip-poor-wills and their eggs is one of several reasons why this species is remarkably difficult for biologists to study.
