You don’t need to toe drag. Most young athletes try to toe drag because they’ve seen it in some elite sprinters and assume it’s the cause of speed. That’s the first mistake. Actively dragging the toe doesn’t help you accelerate. Creating friction against the ground outside of true stance doesn’t move you forward faster. The second explanation people give is that a lower heel helps you get the foot back on the ground sooner so you can push. That idea only holds if it emerges naturally from good p

3 Sprint Myths That Won’t Die 1️⃣ “You run on your toes.” You don’t. Sprinters strike through the ball of the foot with a dorsiflexed, pre activated ankle that’s ready to handle force. The heel drops slightly to load the Achilles for elastic recoil… it’s a reflexive, spring like action, not a toe bounce. 2️⃣ “Tall and Land directly under your center of mass!” If you did, you’d go nowhere. The foot needs to hit slightly in front so you can push back and down. Over correct this cue and you’ll just

Dr. Ben Moxness | Jump Training & Athletic Performance on Instagram: "Ever notice how elite sprinters don’t achieve true “triple extension”? Are they sprinting wrong? Absolutely not! Remember, triple extension is a result of force produced earlier in the movement. It’s a follow through. Peak force in sprinting occurs during the first half of ground contact with the limb relatively flexed and then it rapidly reduces, with very minor forces being produced near toe off This means any “extra” force

Stuart McMillan on Instagram: "STIFFNESS IN SPRINTING PART II Ankle Joint Stiffness: The Secret to Explosive First Steps in Sprinting Caption Notes — We discuss how ankle joint stiffness is crucial for initial acceleration in sprinting. We explain that faster sprinters don’t necessarily produce higher forces—they have superior ankle stiffness that resists dorsiflexion during ground contact. We cover why elite sprinters like Su Bingtian and Christian Coleman excel at block starts, how ankle stiff

Tytan Moore | Sprint & Jump Science on Instagram: "Sprinters and jumpers don’t run distance—and it’s by design ⚡️ Their performance depends on fast-twitch muscle fibers, which generate maximum force and speed in milliseconds. These athletes rely heavily on the ATP-PC and anaerobic energy systems, explosive neural firing, and high rates of force development 🧠💥 Distance running prioritizes the opposite adaptations 🏃♂️ • Slow-twitch muscle fibers • Mitochondrial efficiency • Fatigue resistance

These Myths Make you SLOW🗣️ 1️⃣”Pull your knees up” Speed is created by applying a lot of force into the ground. Not by lifting your knees up high. Top sprinters’ knees come up high when they sprint, as a result of them applying a lot of force into the ground. The more force you apply into the ground, the higher your knee will come up. 2️⃣”Run on your toes” Look at videos of top sprinters - they don’t run on their toes. Their heels touch the ground😱 In top speed, your foot will slightly planta

Elite speed begins before contact — not when you’re already on the ground! The best sprinters don’t wait to create force — they strike from above, attacking the ground with power and popping right back off it. Each step starts high, hits fast, and pushes forward 🏃🏽♂️ #blessed #speedtraining #sprinter #run #viralreels❤️ #performancetraining #sprint #speedworkout #risenathlete | Risen Athlete

Most sprinters try to run fast without ever learning how to hit the right positions. This drill teaches: • Hip lock • Front-side mechanics • Vertical force application • Arm timing If you can’t own these positions slowly, you won’t hit them at speed. Speed isn’t random. It’s built. @WHOOP @Nike #400mtraining #sprintmechanics #frontsidemechanics #trackandfieldlife #roadto47

This should be your primary focal point as it’ll be critical to you effectively executing and building up to reach your maximum velocity. ✔️ Establish the correct body angle ✔️ Drive your knees up ✔️ Don’t cycle heels high (low heel recovery. ✔️ Switch at the thighs ✔️ Press back behind your hips (center of mass) ✅ Being powerful and pressing behind your hips (COM) will propel your body
