The amusement park Jazzland opened in May 2000 in New Orleans East. In 2003 it was taken over by Six Flags and renamed Six Flags New Orleans. On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit. The park was flooded with up to seven feet of water. It never reopened. Today the park remains closed and abandoned. Demolition has started. Six Flags New Orleans, RIP 8/29/05, but still standing today. Originally named Jazzland, the park opened in 2000. Soon after, Six Flags bought the property, rebranding and renaming the park. Throughout 2004 and 2005, plans were underway to expand the park, add a waterpark, hotel, and more. Prior to moving forward, however, the park was closed down for Hurricance Katrina.
