Red Wing police officers say four to five drones were spotted flying around a nuclear plant on Wednesday. According to a press release from the Red Wing Police Department, officers with the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant on the 1700 block of Wakonade Drive that four to five drones had been spotted flying around.

Drones are prohibited from flying over nuclear power plants and other “sensitive facilities,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Prairie Island is one of two nuclear power plants in Minnesota. It’s located along the Mississippi River near the Wisconsin border.

Goodhue County Sheriff's Office said they are looking into reports of drones flying near the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant near Welch.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant of four to five drones flying around the area of the plant.

Officers from the Prairie Island Tribal Police Department and the Red Wing Police Department reported seeing two drones flying around the nuclear plant and Lock and Dam #3. The officers monitored the drones until they left the area and could not find the drone pilot or pilots.

The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office and Red Wing Police Department responded to reports of drones flying near the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant.
