David Lammy has joined G7 foreign ministers in calling for an “immediate de-escalation” between India and Pakistan. The Foreign Secretary and his counterparts have urged “maximum restraint from both” nations, and warned that “further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability”.

The conflict between India and Pakistan has just escalated faster than at any previous point since they both acquired nuclear weapons at the end of the 20th century. That may be because the two countries’ regimes have never been more alike.
