Air Quality Alert issued for Mason County as Bear Gulch Fire burns over 5,700 acres
OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST, Wash. — The Bear Gulch Fire within the Olympic National Forest and National Park has now prompted an Air Quality Alert for those in Mason County, as the blaze has now grown to 5,777 acres as of Tuesday. Containment remains at 3%, as the fire grew an additional 125 acres since the last report on Monday.

By Friday morning, Seattle will have a 90% chance of rain, the weather service said, and the probability of rainfall rises to 100% by Friday night. The Seattle area could see up to 1.25 inches of rain on Friday alone, according to the forecast. Chances of rain drop to 70% on Saturday, when less than a 10th of an inch of rain is expected to fall.
Officials stated Wednesday in a news release about the Bear Gulch fire that “a smoke column reached nearly 30,000 feet into the atmosphere” on Tuesday.
