The Senate Commerce Committee said on Wednesday it would hold a Jan. 29 hearing on President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Commerce Department, the agency that has become a key U.S. tool in its efforts to constrain China's tech sector.

Full Senate floor votes for the three nominees have not been scheduled, but they will likely take place within a week to 10 days.

Senate committees on Thursday approved a handful of Trump Cabinet nominees setting them up for approval by the full chamber.
