Cowboy to hire Matt Eberflus
The re-hiring of Eberflus would follow the Cowboys’ objective of maintaining continuity with their scheme. Eberflus runs a similar 4-3 scheme as previous coordinator Mike Zimmer and that’s part of the reason why he’s a favorite.

Former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has agreed to a contract to become the next defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN's Ed
The Dallas Cowboys are promoting Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, making his first defensive hire -- potentially defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus -- all the more important.
The Cowboys have completed an interview with a candidate for defensive coordinator. Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports that they have interviewed Andre Curtis for the position. Curtis spent the last three seasons as the safeties coach for the Bears.
Eberflus, who left Dallas to become the defensive coordinator for Indianapolis before using that as a platform to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, is in discussions with club officials to return to the Cowboys as defensive coordinator, two people with knowledge of the potential staff told the Dallas Morning News.
Eberflus spent seven seasons with the Cowboys, arriving in 2011 as the linebackers coach. He was promoted to defensive passing game coordinator/linebackers coach in 2016, a role he kept for two seasons until leaving to become the Colts’ defensive coordinator.
Two days after the Chicago Bears introduced their current head coach, the coach they fired is a finalist for his next job.
The news comes after the Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer, after two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator, to replace Mike McCarthy as the team’s next head coach. Eberflus, the Bears head coach from 2022 until his firing late in 2024, was a linebackers coach for the Cowboys from 2011-17.
