Israel has allegedly escalated its attacks on Syria amid an international push for de-escalation and continued fighting in Gaza and Lebanon.

Israeli airstrikes on a western neighbourhood of the Syrian capital Damascus killed at least 15 people on Thursday, Syrian state media said. The news agency, SANA, said the airstrikes on the Mazzeh neighbourhood in Damascus and the suburb of Qudsaya northwest of the capital struck two buildings, damaging a five-storey building.

DUBAI (Reuters) -Fifteen people were killed in Israeli strikes on residential buildings in Damascus on Thursday, Syrian state media reported, and Israel said the attacks targeted military sites and the headquarters of the Islamic Jihad group.

Israel says 15 trucks carrying aid have been allowed into northern Gaza, where aid groups have warned that a monthlong Israeli offensive could cause a famine.

U.S. forces conducted a second straight day of strikes over Syria Tuesday, hitting targets linked to Iranian-aligned militia groups in response to recent attacks on U.S. personnel, according to U.S. Central Command.

The latest bombardment came as the U.S. said it would not reduce its military support for Israel after a deadline passed for allowing more humanitarian aid into Gaza.
