The House of Representatives has approved a joint resolution that would do away with the Environmental Protection Agency’s tailpipe emissions standards, which Republicans have criticized as amounting to an electric vehicle mandate.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday voted narrowly to repeal clean vehicle rules adopted in March to cut fleetwide tailpipe emissions by 50% over 2026 levels by 2032. House Republicans said the Environmental Protection Agency's final regulation would effectively push gas-powered vehicles out of the U.

WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – The U.S. House of Representatives has voted in favor of ending a recent environmental protection agency emissions rule that would mandate that over half of U.S. vehicle sales be electric by 2032.

The Congressional Review Act resolution, H.J. Res. 136, from Michigan Republican Rep. John James, would roll back EPA’s rule for cars and small trucks that Republicans have labeled a “de-facto electric vehicle mandate.” The resolution passed 215-191.

The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal the Biden administration's tailpipe emissions rule on Friday. In March, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a rule on the sale of electronic vehicles, or EVs, that officials called the most ambitious plan ever to cut global-warming emissions from cars.

SD's Dusty Johnson was among the yes votes as the U.S. House voted to roll back an EPA rule strengthening standards for air pollution from car and truck tailpipes.

The Congressional Review Act resolution attacks what Republicans often refer to as the administration's "EV mandate."

The measure was led by Republican Rep. John James of Shelby Township, who criticized a "government takeover of our American automotive industry."
