A Florida lawmaker running for Mike Waltz’s open seat in Congress proposed a state law that would let college students carry a gun on campus.
Senator Randy Fine has introduced a bill for the 2025 Florida legislative session that would permit individuals under 21 to purchase firearms. Senate Bill 94, aims to repeal a law that currently prohibits licensed firearms dealers from selling or transferring firearms to those younger than 21.
Four Republican candidates will be facing off in an April 1 GOP primary for the soon-to-be-vacant District 19 seat in the Florida Senate, which includes Central and South Brevard County. The seat currently is held by Sen.
Over the next 60 days, lawmakers will consider hundreds of bills from immigration to education and gun rights.

According to the bill’s text, Florida colleges and universities can have so called “safe zones” around campus during athletic events in which firearms would not be allowed. But in order for schools to have a gun-free zone, they must "submit a security plan" and be cleared by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
