Oilers Should Sign Brandon Saad
The St. Louis Blues announced they will be placing forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers on Thursday (Jan. 30) for purpose of contract termination, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Saad was drafted 43rd overall by the Blackhawks in 2011 and appeared in two games that following season. He split his rookie season as a 20-year-old between the AHL and NHL where he finished the season by winning the Stanley Cup. At 22, Saad also won it again, except this time making a larger impact with eight goals.
Although it would be sentimental for the Blackhawks to claim Saad, it would be a terrible move. They were already on the losing side of three trades involving Saad so they don’t need to claim him now at this stage of his career with that cap hit.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been playing strong hockey this season and it seems as though they’re poised to make it back to the playoffs again. This time around, they would prefer to make a push for their first Stanley Cup since 1967 and make a deep run rather than being eliminated in the first round.
The St. Louis Blues will place forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract, the team announced.
Saad will have his contract with the St. Louis Blues terminated within the next 48 hours. Once he clears unconditional waivers at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, which is a formality, the mutual termination of Saad’s existing contract will leave him free to sign with any team he chooses.
