New York Mets owner Steve Cohen’s $8 billion plan to bring a casino to Citi Field’s parking lot will head to the City Council for a vote after the City Planning Commission gave the project their stamp of approval last week.
"I've always wanted to be a little more measured in payroll growth, and then we get there and it's never quite there,” Cohen said Tuesday.

Cohen would like to get under that threshold at some point, but not now. Not when the Mets have momentum and not when they have a lineup deep enough to compete with the one out west. The Mets simply aren’t ready to compete with a lower payroll yet. They don’t have a farm system regularly churning out big-league players.
