The Mets are acquiring hard-throwing closer Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, a day before the July 31 Major League Baseball deadline, the team announced Wednesday. The Cardinals get back three minor leaguers: shortstop Jesus Baez and right-handed pitchers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt.

The Mets are reportedly acquiring St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, in exchange for a trio of prospects: Shortstop Jesus Baez (the team's No. 8 overall prospect ), pitcher Nate Dohm (No. 14) and pitcher Frank Elissalt.

David Stearns and the Mets’ front office also completed a trade with the Giants for Tyler Rogers during their loss this afternoon in San Diego. Like Rogers, Helsley is a rental, as he’s set to hit free agency at the end of this season.
