The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is on the ground in Texas for the second time this year, as an ongoing multistate measles outbreak centered in the western part of the state has grown to one of the worst the country has seen in decades.

A second child in Texas has died from measles, one of the world's most contagious illnesses that was declared eliminated from the United States in 2000, several decades after the introduction of a highly effective vaccine.

The measles outbreak in western Texas has hit 481 cases as 59 newly identified infections were confirmed over the last three days, according to new data published Friday.
