The board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted Wednesday to appoint President Donald Trump as its chairman in an unprecedented move days after Trump announced the Washington, D.C., arts center would be his latest target in his war against “woke culture.

The president solidified his grip on the performing arts complex as the center’s longtime president, Deborah F. Rutter, was fired.

Trump is now the Kennedy Center's board chairman, giving him control over a beloved arts institution that regularly interacts with Hollywood
