Yemen’s Houthi rebels are stepping up their missile attacks, keeping up what could be the last major front in the Middle East wars.

Israel has severely weakened Hamas and Hezbollah. Now it's going after another member of Iran's so-called axis of resistance: the Houthi rebels of Yemen.

The US military on Tuesday said it hit targets in Yemen targeting the Houthi militia, hours after the Iran-backed group launched attacks on Israel. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said its warships and aircraft attacked a number of Houthi-linked sites,

The military said the missile was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory, but police reported shrapnel from the interception fell in several towns. There were no reports of injuries.

World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was about to board a plane at the Sanaa International Airport when it came under attack. A crew member on the plane was injured, he said.

Air raid sirens rung out in Jerusalem after a missile was launched from Yemen towards Israel, according to the Israeli military.

The US THAAD system is under fire after another reported failure to intercept Houthi missiles in Israel. Houthi official Nasruddin Amer reportedly mocked US and Israeli defences, claiming no system can counter hypersonic missiles.

A missile launched from Yemen by Houthi rebels crossed into Israeli territory, prompting air raid sirens in Jerusalem and central Israel. The missile was successfully intercepted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with fragments falling near Modiin.
