Pope Francis rested overnight in the hospital, the Vatican said earlier Sunday, adding that his night "passed peacefully."

Pope Francis, in critical condition battling double pneumonia, had a "good" night in hospital, slept and is resting, the Vatican said on Monday. The pope was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital on February 14 after having trouble breathing for several days and subsequently had pneumonia diagnosed in both lungs.

The update to Francis’s condition came Sunday in the written text of his regular Angelus prayer after he had been listed as “critical” on Saturday.

Pope Francis' resumes work but he is still in critical condition according to the Vatican. Fears have been growing about the pontiff’s condition after he was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 14, later experiencing breathing difficulties and being diagnosed with "double pneumonia.
