Nearly two years after the dramatic wildfire in Upper Tantallon, Halifax council has approved a new emergency exit to help people in the neighbourhood where the blaze began.

The wildfire in Tantallon, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Halifax, was brought under control over the weekend, thanks to the efforts of firefighters and much-needed rainfall.

More than 200 structures, 150 of which are homes, have been destroyed in the ongoing blaze ripping through the Halifax-area communities of Hammonds Plains and Tantallon.
