Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Takuma Sato crashed Thursday morning during an open test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2.5-mile oval. Sato, the 2017 and '20 winner, lost control in Turn 1 and hit the Turn 2 outside wall hard.

As a two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 in both 2017 and 2020, Takuma Sato is one of the most experienced drivers at IMS. This year, the Japanese driver is aiming to make his 16th start in the crown jewel event, again driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

IndyCar star Takuma Sato recorded a hefty 94G crash during the Indianapolis 500 Open Test on Thursday. Sato had just the second-fastest time of the morning session, where the turbo boost level was increased to qualifying specification, when he spun and slammed the wall heavily at Turn 1.
