An Ohio native, Gurd is joining another former Ohio State tight end, Joe Royer, down at Cincinnati. Gurd stayed with the program through its national championship victory, but after a weekend of celebration, made his intentions clear on Monday that he will play the 2025 college football season with the Bearcats.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s Calvin Simpson-Hunt has entered the transfer portal. The cornerback is departing after his sophomore season with the Buckeyes. In Ohio State’s run to a College Football Playoff National Championship, Simpson-Hunt played six defensive snaps and recorded two tackles.

Following the National Championship win for Ohio State over Notre Dame, a number of Buckeyes had a decision to make. The transfer portal remained open for five days for players to enter. Meanwhile, some players were already in the portal but decided to finish out the title run with Ohio State.
