More than half a dozen wildfires continued to burn across Colorado Monday, including a new fire that sparked on Sunday afternoon near Pagosa Springs.

A Colorado prison was evacuated because of a fast-growing wildfire that’s already one of the largest in state history, officials said. The spread of the Lee Fire in western Colorado forced the relocation of 179 incarcerated people at the Rifle Correctional Center to the Buena Vista Correctional Complex on Aug.

The Lee Fire near Meeker, now the fifth largest fire in Colorado's history, is just one four major fires in western Colorado threatening homes and other structures as firefighters struggle to get containment.

RIO BLANCO COUNTY, Colo. — The Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County has grown to the sixth largest in Colorado history, according to the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. The fire was mapped with infrared technology at more than 106,000 acres as of Sunday.
